Matt's Party - Origami

All right, now see the skills in action.
Elizabeth made a box out of my origami book. It takes 6 pieces of paper. In the past, I've had people decorate one piece each and then we put them together.
Here is my masterpiece for the night. Combining genres of assemblage, origami, and buying the work of someone else, I have created the modern moster movie. I'm a genius.

JoJo did the frog from directions in an origami book he brought. It was his idea to make a tongue out of yarn, too.
This is all me. I did this out of JoJo's book. It's supposed to be a dragonfly, so I made it into a dragon. The background was already done when I bought it from SCRAP and the yellow part of the fire was cut out from an obscure DC comic, also from SCRAP.
I didn't have the patience to look for small people screaming in terror away from the monsters, so I settled for relaxing tourists. Then I wrote, "Just ignore them" in a word balloon.
Because if giant monsters interrupted your vacation, would you give them attention? No, of course not, that would just encourage them.
JoJo made this and put it on my giant cookie. Y'know, it might have been JoJo's idea to go cross-genre, originially ...
JoJo coached CJ to do this, I think.

Matt's Party - Assemblage

All right, this is the party post with by far the most photos, so here we go.
So, we laid out a bunch of magazines and um, pink ponytails and let people assemble them into collages. Here's Hafidha. Here's Bahar, Elizabeth, and Julia. Bahar brought her knitting, but she said that she wasn't knitting me a sweater.
Burt has some of the more... interesting facial poses.

I like geometric themes, so I like the diamond.
Hafidha asked for my advice and I told her to put the "glow" on the bottom because of color scheming.
If you look at the last picture, you will notice a little bump on Hafidha's stomach. Well, there's a 52% chance that that bump is going to be named Inara, after a character on "Firefly" and "Serenity". Notice how this picture has that kind of Inara feel to it.
This is Michael's collage. Notice how the diamonds form a person.
Michael's collage was too darn glossy to use with a flash and too dark to use without a flash. Oh, well, it looks cool.
Julia rolled up paper and said she put beads in the limbs. It's 3-D, just like Bahar's. Julia took it with her, so I couldn't get a close-up.

Matt's Party - Fingerpainting

This'll be a short post. At my No Pressure Art Party:
Here's Laurie fingerpainting. At SCRAP, they had works of art already complete, and I figured, "Well, hey, if they threw them out, then we can just paint over them!" So, Laurie fingerpainted over someone's already existing art.
And Voila! A baby who is apparently in need of oxygen. (Because he's blue...)

Here's Laurie posing with her flower. Burt was impressed and Laurie said, "You're surprised that I have talent?" I came in and saved him: "He's just impressed what you were able to make considering the limitations of the medium." (You owe me one.) ;)

Whoo. Burt and Laurie each have talent for sculpture. Burt actually put his initials on his piece on the left. Notice the petals on Laurie's.

Matt's party - watercolor

Here's the watercolor table.

CJ looked to me like she was having trouble finding her muse, so I went in my room and got a present that my Secret Santa had given me. With a little cajoling, I got CJ to paint the truck before assembling it.
So here we are assembling it. CJ decided that using the directions would be too easy, so she wanted to assemble the truck using only the completed picture on the front. I said, "You can't put it together without the instructions." She said, "Don't tell me what I can't do!" loud enough for the whole room to hear it and respond, "Ooh..." Knowing I was beaten, I acquiesced.
Soon it became apparent to me that the pieces were flawed and that we would need to use the instructions. CJ said that then it wouldn't be a puzzle.



So, we tried to assemble it, but then I figured out it was backwards. CJ seemed to think that was OK, but I had given up hope. I got distracted and wandered off to something else and CJ stuck with it...
...and finished it. She even fit in the pieces that wouldn't fit. Looks nice, huh?
So the moral of the story is that CJ is smarter than I am.
