Birds

The other day I looked out the window and saw a bunch of starlings happily munching on something in my yard. I watched them for awhile, hoping they were eating slug larva, until something startled them and they flew away. I haven't seen them since.

Bonus dorky, but interesting, fact: The starling, considered a pest by most, was introduced to this country by a man who was trying to bring every bird mentioned in Shakespeare to the United States.

I think that they are kind of mean birds in the bird world. They seem to pick on the cute little finches. Well, and lets be honest - there is NO LOVE LOST between myself and those eye-pecking out flying beasts. My fear of birds continues to this day, somehow cute little finches are pretty doable...but starlings,,,not so much! And, really, in the end I am sure that the finches would peck my eyes out in a pinch - if they put their wee little minds to it.

So, I am not so sure Shakespeare bird man did us a favor. -S
