Sentinel hunts metronome.

Matt and I had the metronome chirping away while we practiced guitar and Sentinel came to investigate. He tried to eat it a few times, but found it inedible.

Yet another carrot specimen

Curses!

Will I ever produce an edible one?

Matt and Patricia go to Ariel & Ben's Wedding. Part VI

Random photos from the event:

Matt's blue ear and Ariel's brother.

Aside from pie, there were cupcakes with Star Wars rings. Allegra got a Darth Vader.

Which Julie successfully argued that she should have, being on the side of evil and all that.

The evening ended with Capture the Flag.

Here, Matt and Kristen guard for Ariel's side.

It was a fun afternoon and we enjoyed ourselves. Congratulations to Ariel and Ben.

We assemble for a photo.

This is my favorite photo because we are all shouting instructions to different people.
Such teachers.

We assemble. Left to right:
Julie, Mia (Jo's Daughter,) Jo, Ariel, Allegra, Kristen, Me.

And we kick!

More photos from the wedding.

Julie and Kristen discuss marriage, family and the state of the union over wine, cheese and bread.

We got our picture taken for the "best wishes" book. I appreciated that the man taking the photos actually took the time to take good pictures of us.

The bride and the photographer. Ariel taught her daughter.

Ariel giving a hug to her dad. Also a nice, full-length view of the dress. The lower skirt detaches for a different look.

Kristen's shoes, which I found to be fabulous.

Matt enjoying more games, including this one which involved seeing how fast you could get a hacky sack through a rotation of people.

A picture of one of my attempts at hooping. What you see is shortly after I have slung the hoop into motion. Count to three and picture the hula hoop at my feet. That's me and hooping.

Kristen and Rob head off for a walk.

Ariel comes over for a staff photo. You can see her blue cowboy boots, which she bought special for the wedding.

In between hula hooping attempts, I wandered over to get a look at the food and snapped this picture of the menu.
Alas, I did not take any pictures of the actual food. I can tell you that 1)It was delicious, especially the beef. And 2) Our table got into a very long discussion about whether the name "orecchiette" meant "little ear" or if it had some reference to men's genitalia. This debate (it means "little ear") was solved when Jo finally got tired of the discussion, and got out her iPhone to settle the matter.

Petals or Pie.
On their website, Ben and Ariel asked not for gifts, but just our attendance. If we so desired we could bring a gift of Petals or Pie. Many, many people brought some or both; there were lovely flowers everywhere and about 30 pies.
Here is Kristen's. (She of the hooping instruction.) I had some, it was delicious.

Here is mine. I made chocolate creme pie.
Tara, one of my workmates who could not attend the wedding observed the following while looking at the pictures. "Those tags for the pie are exactly like what the students fill out for their student-led conference: 'I chose this piece because...'"

The plus of asking for pie: There were probably about 30 pies to choose from. The personal minus of bringing pie? I had about six different kinds and fell into a sugary stupor. It was worth it, though. Those were some good pies.

Games!

As part of her wedding planning, Ariel had "Masters of" and "Mistresses of" all different kinds of things. Lucky for us there were two "Masters of Games" which meant that in the reception portion of the event, not only were there games to play on every table, but also things like bocce ball and hula hoops.

Matt is a quite good hula hooper, which he attributes to the presence of the "booty shirt" which he ties around his waist to give him some hips.

He can go on and on.

Kristen, carefully explaining to me what I need to do to have success while hooping.

She is also quite good.

Nena, who is a first grader at school and quite the darling girl, is a fantabulous hooper.

Matt can even hoop without the "booty shirt"
